FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield could have a new Mexican restaurant in less than two weeks, as ownership at Puerto Vallarta prepares to open the latest location on Black Rock Turnpike.

“I’ve been looking for a Fairfield location for like the past 15 years,” said owner Esaul Rodriguez.

Now Rodriguez has found a space at 2000 Black Rock Turnpike, the former home of The Bear & Grill, which closed about a year ago.

Customers at Puerto Vallarta can expect authentic Mexican fare, from seafood to steak to vegetarian options. The restaurant will serve handmade fresh tortillas and table-side guacamole, and feature mariachi music on Sundays. Its decor will be modern and stylish, according to Rodriguez.

“We’re the Mexican restaurant of the future,” he said.

Puerto Vallarta has six other locations in Connecticut. Rodriguez is still waiting for the Fairfield restaurant to be issued a liquor license, but he is hoping to open in two weeks or less.

“It’s 99 percent done,” he said.
